About us

Since its establishment in 2007, elledanse has been operating in reconstructed premises of former slaughter house in Bratislava market place. Its space is run as multiuse non-commercial contemporary art centre providing space for dance, movement and physical theatre as well as performing arts.

elledanse theatre represent a platform combining professional theatre, activities of artistic unit titled elledanse Company, space for rehearsal and activities of elledanse Dance school for children, adults and seniors.

Apart from theatre and dance school, the civic association elledanse runs theatre performances, festivals, workshops, productions and co-productions of theatre and dance projects; it also stages exhibitions, concerts, projections, discussions, offers residential stays, guest arrangements and runs its own theatre cafe.

elledanse is inseparably connected with its Company numbering 14 dancers and staging 2 premiers each year. Company’s art director is distinguished choreographer  Šárka Ondrišová, a founder and leading person in both elledanse Theatre and Dance School. Apart from permanent Company’s staff, Mr. Ondrišová likes to invite leading Slovak dancers, choreographers and other artists. Recent years opened doors to international projects, too.

elledanse in figures: 17 premiers of Slovak original and foreign authors, guests to 10 European countries, more than 12 thousand spectators a year, 900 events during 7 theatrical seasons, 3 most outstanding theatre awards in Slovakia, more than 400 dance school pupils, etc.

elledanse likes challenges, thus it responds to topical social issues related to culture, support of art projects undertaken by emergoing and established artists. Most often, it creates and presents new projects and experiments in the field of contemporary dance and movement theatre while intertwining professional theatre with leisure activities of broad public. It lays emphasis on educating young people to love arts and be creative. At the same time, it stresses education of professional dancers, choreographers and  teachers, while bringing back Slovak artists living abroad, sharing their knowledge and expertise, thus safeguarding continuity in the whole process of education and practice.
